The Brief

To create a short animated movie that highlights what the people working in the Gateshead Civic Centre building can do to cut the energy levels – both within the office and at home.

Our Approach

The last thing we wanted was to create a film that “lectured” – instead we wanted the film to be fun and informative.

We incorporated a range of interesting facts throughout the piece to highlight what impact average energy waste in an office and home environment has on the environment.

Taking an infographic style we designed a replica of the interior of the Civic Centre, which made the location instantly recognisable to the viewer.

We also researched the little habits of those who worked within the building and brought those into the film. In addition, we added a number of subtle humorous touches that the viewer might not pick up on first viewing, but get after a few watches.

With the film being displayed on monitors and computer screens we had to make sure it worked without sound, but as the film was also going to be used as an introductory piece for ‘new starters’, we created an upbeat soundtrack that would work in unison with the action.

It was a great project to be involved in, and through it we’ve all become a little bit greener here at KC.

The Result

We won’t know what impact the film has had for a few months, but it’s worked wonders for our own green footprint.
